Fast growing biomass demand calls for energy crops and imports

    • Biomass supply potential in Europe is forecasted to fall short of demand with insufficient supply mobilization potential
    • Cyclical development/demand of competing traditional industries is not calculable
    • Emerging industries like biomass co-firing in coal fired power stations and 2nd generation bio-fuel production are reaching out for low quality biomass feedstock materials / pulp wood
    • Biomass residue volumes with good accessibility are limited and utilization by different industries intensifies
    • Traditional forestry/agricultural stake holder are not yet positioned for commercial scale implementation of dedicated energy wood plantations – despite national incentive programs in e.g. US and UK

=> Cooperation of critical market players (off-take, short rotation plantations specialists, financing) are required to speed up development of dedicated biomass production
